BEAUTIFUL house! So many houses in that area don’t have fireplaces, and instead were either built with or converted over to wood stoves with no evidence of the original mantles. I like the bathroom sink built into a dresser; a neat idea that I’ve never seen before. I’ve lived in that region before though, and wild horses couldn’t get me to live through another downwind-from-Lake-Ontario winter!

I live not far from Lake Ontario, although in Niagara Countu. Still, we get our share of cold winds off both Lakes Ontario AND Erie. Today, it never went over 12 here…but, at last, the sun was out all day!
The chest used as a bathroom vanity, I’ve seen quite a bit. I wanted to do that, but couldn’t find a chest that I liked, that was small enough for my ranch bathroom.

An amazing house, especially considering its age and remote location. One story attached is about Rachel, an 18 year old slave girl who attempted to burn the house down shortly after its completion – a charred beam remains. There’s no record of her grievance, though she was convicted of a capital crime and avoided hanging only on a technicality, and died in prison.

I wish there were more pictures! Lovely house. The only thing is, the description says there are wood shutters. I don’t see them-am I goi g blind, or is the realtor messed up?

Regarding the wood shuttered windows, they are on the inside. If you look closely at several of the pictures you can see them hinged next to the framework. It appears not all the windows have this feature, but a good many per the pictures. There appears to be 4 shutters per window as the shutters are split top and bottom as well as left and right.
