OHD Notes
"Joseph Nathan who lived in this home from 1874 to c. 1905, was the son of Jacob Nathan, an early and successful Lancaster merchant. The younger Nathan became involved in his father's business, Nathan, Schreiner & co., (132 e. Maple Street, 42/30) in 1866 and by 1881 was a co-owner. A year later he withdrew from that firm and established his own grocery and meat market which became Nathan & Sons (118 s. Madison Street, 42/20)."
