“Yes, it’s paint” LOL!! I did a triple take with that one. Is it supposed to be an aerial view of treetops or… ? 🙂

This house is absolutely magical. I love the shape of the doorways and windows and how it all converges in that magnificent tub alcove. And I love the rough look of the wood. And that incredible mosaic floor in the sunroom.

Yeah, I’m a little puzzled by that paint. It looks like mold to me. Sorry, but that’s one room I might repaint.

If that’s paint, it looks very similar to the kitchen floor.

I love the fish & bird(s?) within that paint job, but agree that the background looks waaay too much like mold.

I believe the fish and birds were by the original architect-artist, and the sponge painting is recent. It should be restored.

I loved the first Sam Stoltz house posted, which was on the market for years and sold for only $135k. This one is way cool too!

Interesting that your linked article features a picture of the Spadena “witch’s” house in Beverly Hills, CA, which was built as a studio prop in the 1920s and later moved to BH and converted into a livable house. I can’t find any connection between Stoltz and the Spadena house.

Probably the connection is the house style which loosely falls under the “Storybook” designation with certain traits which differentiate it from the Tudor style that it superficially resembles. Storybook houses often have a air of fantasy derived from the Hollywood movies of the 1920’s and ’30’s. Life imitates art sometimes which is why a studio prop house ended up becoming a real residence.

For an old Florida girl they had me hooked at pecky cypress and Coquina. If I had any desire to move there this would do it. Let’s hope new owners don’t paint.

The most outstanding feature is the roof, of course. It’s a bit labor intensive to create a roof like this with the curved edges, using steam-bent shingles. It’s amazing it’s still there! It gives the place a real storybook charm to it!

The curved edges were originally covered with shingles cut to resemble thatch.

There’s one house near here with that shingled-to-resemble-thatch roof, it’s cool.

This one I believe qualifies for the “Storybook House” designation with a distinctive Florida twist. Some folks love houses like this while others are not so keen. I personally appreciate it as a convergence of art and architecture. Storybook houses were never common and a theme they have in common is a sense of fantasy and things that are whimsical. I think this is the kind of house that its stature will only grow over time. I think it deserves to be preserved in as original a form as practical. A lot would be lost if someone tried to modernize this unique house. Keeping my fingers crossed the right kind of buyer is its next owner who will keep the fantasy alive.

Looks just like the fairy tale type cottage that was so popular during the Florida land boom.

My first impression was, yes, fairy tale cottage that the wicked witch lives in. And, forgive me, that bathroom wall scares me half to death. I would paint it over. Sorry.

A fairytale come true. Now that yard–needs a lavendar maze, or at least, maybe, a tree.

Oh I love this cute house!! Yes very storybook for sure. I even thought it had a thatched roof at first glance. Did anyone else notice the wizard (or maybe an angel) with a top hat on above the register in bathroom? The drawings on the wall made me think of Lord of the Rings. Love it! (I do tend to love the quirky☺️)

Does anyone know if it’s possible to find that blue mosaic flooring anymore? We had the red in my childhood home. Searches just don’t come up with anything similar.

Yes I to thought MOLD IN THE BATHROOM I don’t think I would change it as it is part of the quilt of this wonderful home. And I feel John is correct in thinking this place will be more desirable as time passes. Anyone can have a new bathroom but this one is a work of art.

The artist is also the builder. He only built 5 homes. These are rare and works of art. The homes should be bought(if at all possible) not wanting to change the homes or art work. The city or state could buy them up and hold on to them as historic items.

What a storybook home! I just love that bathroom! If I couldn’t do it myself I would have someone paint something neat on the doors of that large cupboard with the brown doors. I wonder how hard it would be to find someone to work on the roof if it ever needed repairs? It is SO fabulous, it just makes the entire home! I would love to decorate this place!

OMG what an awesome home! Its like a fairy dream place! I adore this, except the location. Location aside, lucky new owners when it sells 🙂 So magical!

A house such as this captures the imagination. At first glance you can’t wait to see more and when you do, you never want to leave (or that’s how I react to a dream like this!) I have so much respect for the architect for his imagination and talent. If he only built five houses, I hope they are all standing and a search will reveal them. Suffice to say I LOVE this home.
