Bring your flashlights or headlamps. Come ready to embark into the long lost past that sits on the path to Mt. Rainier. This building was the Old El Rancho dance hall beer, chicken, and spaghetti served amongst possible other pleasures. Also referred to the Bucket of Blood for the old-timer fights. Lastly, a loving family home where childhood memories were made. If walls could talk. Bring your imagination and courage. If nothing else here is your opportunity to live just feet from Alder Lake.

  1. When I left Tacoma in 1989, Eatonville had a population of only about 1,375! I knew the publisher/editor of the local weekly paper, Jim Martin-Almy, who was trying to make a living in that little town. Apparently now it’s got over 3,000 people, so a lot of new houses must have been built in the last 30 years. Still, Eatonville’s main claim to fame is being near Mt. Rainier.

Well how cool is that?! I would love to be able to say, “Yeah we bought the old Chickie Roost Dance Hall. You know, the El Rancho. The Bucket ‘o Blood. Yeah we’re gonna fix the joint up and live there, just feet from the lake.”

Wow! What a great setting! It looks to need a lot of work but the setting and the inside spaces look great.

The inside spaces are interesting though I must say that I’m not a fan of second story railings looking down into a space. I’d have to fix that part. I might be wrong, but it appears that drifters or squatters were lodged here.

Not so sure that I’d want to be “feet from the lake” because I could wake up one morning with my feet in the lake–and my bed and the kitchen table… It certainly is a pretty area though, and maybe good for fishing. Just look at all those tree stumps! It’s a wonder that the building stood all the debris.

Hopefully the right people will come along and make this a beauty! Thanks Kelly!!
