Thanks to the owner for sharing his home with us.

  2. I love the porch; could sit out there and enjoy some lovely evenings! And I really like that they kept the old door in pictures 13 & 14 – along with the floors, it gives the home such a wonderful atmosphere.

The Plantation Plain house form was used throughout rural Georgia for a very long time. This example has the classic profile that resembles an I-House with an attached full-width, single story shed-roofed ell at the rear and a matching front porch. This is a nice example that appears to have been lovingly restored at some point in the past.

Beautiful. The outside of the house looks bigger than any of the interior photos. Living room and dining room seem small. Wish there were more pics of the other rooms.

Not only do I like the house, I love the way it’s furnished. Great house!

If they left the furnishings, I would buy this house and move to Georgia in a heartbeat. As a Northerner, I can’t believe how inexpensive beautiful homes are down there.

    • I’m in VT. I am looking to buy a home down south, either the Carolinas or GA. This house calls to me. This home in VT would be over $250K easily. I’m going to contact the realtor and see if it’s still available. 🙂

      • Hello, This is Will. I own the Baxter house and delighted by your kind response to the house. If you’re interested, please call Rory Moon at Keller Williams in Atlanta. And I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

This style is not usually my cup o’ tea, but this is so lovely I’d jump all over it were I in the market in GA.

So many great comments about the furniture, and I agree. It looks like it is furnished with pieces that have been lovingly handed down for generations. You know, like,” Honey, could you get my glasses? They are in the top drawer of great-aunt Ethel’s desk.”

  13. Real, functioning shutters!

That’s enough of a selling point right there, everything else is just a bonus.

The house retains a lot of its vintage feel despite additions and updates. I like the way they kept the original siding intact inside, defining the older structure and the later kitchen addition.

I’m not usually a fan of stark white walls but in this case it makes the richness of the furniture pieces standout nicely. Lovely home!

Historic records and architectural details indicate Andrew Baxter built this house prior to 1820. He evidently operated a mill near Sparta that was destroyed by fire and was likely replaced by this one, which is known by several different names including Baxter’s mill…

This place is a real gem… just wonderful. It’s a rare treat to see photographs which hone in on normally overlooked details such as hardware, muntins and flooring. These kinds of images really help to convey the soul of a house — and this house clearly has one.

Kelly have you been to Sparta lately? Is the town upswinging with the new resurgence in Atlanta? The house is wonderful, perfectly furnished and a historic treasure.

One of my faves!! I love the simplicity the owners have here.. Not too much furniture or decor & what’s there looks like a great collection!! For me it’s actually perfect!! To the owner Will, you have a beautiful home & I hope the next owner will give it as much care & respect as you have! I dream of owning a home like yours, someone will be really lucky to have such a great home!
