Agriculture in the Heartland isn’t as profitable these days as it was in the past. When farmers face economic challenges it also impacts the small towns they help support. Local real estate prices can also suffer. This house with over two and a half acres would be on the market for more than twice the asking price in some locations. The interior is truly fine with common but colorful Queen Anne style windows bathing the interior in lovely colors. The only thing I’d want to change would be to carefully remove the subway type tiles from the hearth surround of the ornate mantel and replace them with more period appropriate tiles. (like from American Encaustic Tiling Co. here’s a tile catalog from the period: https://archive.org/stream/artistictiles00amer#mode/2up ) I believe there’s a company or two making generic period glazed replacement tiles these days. I’m undecided about the projecting porch seen near the white van; it could be original and more recently repaired, or a later addition by someone who understood Victorian porch design. Bring this house out from its white shroud with some period colors and it would sparkle. I would also remove the security iron entrance door and make sure an appropriate Queen Anne style door was in place. Nice house here…I like it.

Thanks for the American Encaustic Tiling catalog John. The workmanship that went into producing those tiles compared to what we find now is a world of difference. Just beautiful. I wish I could go back in time and order some of those tiles.

The interior was a bit disappointing but the exterior made my heart swoon “sigh”

Lots of work here, but a beautiful place and a very reasonable price. I love those railings on the side porch which have the feel of welcoming arms.

This grand lady just needs a little TLC. Great house all over. First thing I would do would be to remove that dish from her lovely tower.

The exterior has some great details that would show much better with a period correct paint scheme, in my opinion.
