I love hybrids like these! So cool that the owners in 1915 didn’t obliterate the original 1871 details like that front door and staircase. It all works, somehow. I’d like to see a floor plan.

Does that giant window open?! It has handles on the bottom, either side of that clock.
Lovely staircase, wish we could see the whole thing at once.
I would also like to see a floor plan.

It looks like the 1915 update was a virtual rebuild of the small earlier home. The masonry work is consistent all around and matches that date, so the original house was likely wood-frame. The interior details seem to span the entire period from the 1870’s to WW1.

The family story is as interesting as the house. Virginia Knight Logan (1849-1940) was a classically trained singer who gave performances around the country accompanied on the piano by her young son in knee pants. Frederic later became famous for the waltzes he composed, and expanded the home he was born in, originally built for his widowed grandmother and her children. He lived here with his mother and her siblings, and they taught at their own music academy in town. Virginia survived him by 12 years, dying here at age 91.
