The GRANTHAM-STONE HOUSE, was built by John Smith in the 1750''s. It has a rich history. The property has a rich history. It served as a tavern called Sam Stone''s Tavern. In the 19th Century it was home to an inn called The Virginia Inn. It is believed to have been an apothecary. The property was the set of several scenes from a movie about Abraham Lincoln. It has a running chain of title to many families, including 108 years of ownership to the Bates Family. The gardens have been features in the Home and Garden Tour. And have been the peaceful setting for several weddings. Presently, the home is a personal residence, located on the corner of Queen Street and Grace Street, in historic Middleway West Virginia.
