Originally, the double tiered bottom sashes of the floor length windows would have raised all the way up level with the bottom of the top sash so you could walk right out onto the porch; as well as to promote the greatest amount of air flow possible inside. They were designed so that the top tier of the raised bottom sash would have disappeared through a slot in the trim into the wall cavity above. Those slots have been sealed at some point. I’d open them back up first thing! 😉

    • I was wondering about those windows – thanks for clearing that up! That type of window is one of my favorite architectural features of the time period. I wonder why the upper cavities were sealed up and how difficult (read: expensive) it would be to unseal them….

Would like to know what the room with all the shelves is and what it’s connected to. If this place had some acreage with it, I just might be tempted.

Nicely preserved, not too many modern, obtrusive “updates.” Palestine is a nice town in East Texas. This could be a very pretty home with period decor and a refreshing of the yard.Size is also good – not too big or too small. I like it very much.
