If walls could talk. Seems like one of those houses in a movie that says

1840 is decades too early for this one unless it has had more than one makeover in subsequent decades. The first mansard roofed Second Empires didn’t start showing up on this side of the Atlantic until the early 1850’s but its possible an earlier structure had a mansard roof added in the 1870’s with lots of additional changes to the exterior and interior around 1890. Most prominent from this later remodeling is the staircase (balustrade and newel replaced but likely keeping the original tread and stairs layout) and the beautiful stained glass windows. The bathroom fixtures (sinks) also date from this later remodel as do the mantels. Potential buyers should take note of the required “investing in major systems” mentioned in the listing. The positive trade off is that the house has hardly seen any changes since the 1890’s remodel but will now require modern electrical, plumbing, and HVAC retrofits. The upstairs arched balcony has an uncanny similarity to the same feature on a house in Calvert, TX that was on Old House Dreams about a year ago: (my photo from a Calvert visit) http://www.flickr.com/photos/11236515@N05/6233002772/in/set-72157627866343430/
At 5,000 sq. feet, its a huge house yet the taxes seem moderate. Might make for a great old house project if someone has some serious money to put into it.

I was really “feeling” this one until I got to the second floor landing and could see the view through the curtains. The aerial view confirmed my suspicions the house has a very romantic view of the Dollar Store. This is the problem with a lot of city homes, other homes being knocked down for gas stations etc. There is a beautiful Gothic mansion in a smaller town north of me Alexandria MN which is a resort area. The list price is $109.900 but it also has a view of a commercial building I believe to be a Super America gas station.

This was perfection in its day I am sure. I hope someone grabs it up that will appreciate it. 🙂

Fix the leaks and rain gutter problems. Put a coat of paint on the outside and move in and putter away on it as the years tick by. Wow what a great house.

Thanks to Anna for sending in some exterior pics! Uploaded them to the post (sorry took a while, I thought I had!)

So, did Anna buy this house? There are some wonderful details inside. The beautiful later Victorian era millwork and stained glass only add to the charm. Thanks for the added photos.

No, she’s just an admirer. She sent the photos in 11 or so days ago (I usually upload sent in photos within 24 hours.) Don’t think the house is for sale and not sure it even sold when it was on the market last.

    Officially demolished.

Found a report about it being demolished and the updated street view.
