68 Kay St, Newport, RI 02840

A Victorian Treasure. Hawkhurst is one of architect Dudley Newton's most elaborate commissions. Built in 1882 and designed in the Queen Anne style with two curved balconies and tower. No expense was spared in the construction of Hawkhurst, which offers one of the most ornate great rooms in all of Newport, with richly detailed coffered paneled walls and ceiling. Hawkhurst, as it stands today, was the central section to a much larger house. This 4,000 sq foot home, with 5 bedrooms and 4.1 baths, has been recently renovated with new 100 amp electrical system, heating system, plumbing, new kitchen and expanded master bedroom. Hawkhurst is centrally located on Kay Street, Newport's first "cottage area". Both large and small estates were created in the 1850's and gradually filled in with summer houses. Kay Street is in the heart of Newport with a diversity of architectural styled homes, which adds to the charm of this tree lined street. One of the best locations to walk to town, restaurants and shops, a beautiful long sandy beach or the Cliff Walk. This very lovely home includes off-street parking, a 2 car garage and sunny fenced in back yard. Only 1.5 hour drive to Boston, 35 minute drive to Providence airport.
