This is truly a diamond in the rough - a beautiful antique that needs someone to bring it back to it's glory. Needs kitchen. Baths need updating. The floors are beautiful wide board. The windows are ceiling to floor and the arched french doors are dramatic. Rooms are large and home flows nicely. The screened in porch is lovely and overlooks quaint antique stone walled yard. Located in the historic town of Thompson among the many stately beautiful homes. Just off I-395...which makes for an easy commute to Boston - 60 miles, New York City - 2 hrs, Providence - 30 min.

1813 comes from the record date but this had a few updates after that. Interesting mix!

I love this one!! Interesting that there’s no kitchen! Like, is the 1st time for sale? Has no one lived here in a really long time or has the old fire oven been used? Just awesome!!

Wow. I love this. The area is lovely. I saw a sink and a hearth, all you need is a refrigerator for the kitchen. Would love to fill it up with antique cabinets. I suppose I give in with an antique stove but I sure wouldn’t put in a new kitchen. What a beauty this is.

    >Interesting mix!
    For sure!
    >I would live in it just like this!
    You know it.
    >I sure wouldn’t put in a new kitchen.

Gorgeous, Federal, marble mantle. Is it original? Maybe. The thing is lite, elegant, and delightful. I would design the room around it. Choice.

What – no “what is it” comment? Heheheh. Odds are, it actuates(ed) a pump over a well in the cellar, pushing water into a pipe leading up to a cistern in the attic; which would have provided an early, pressurized, “running water” source to the original kitchen, (at least). Would I make it work again? Oh yeah! Suuuuper cool. 🙂

This one had me swooning. I’d want to take a few things back to an earlier state, maybe even take off that lovely screened porch, because that door surround needs to be the star. That settee out there too—that needs some saving! So much elegance happening here, this was one grand house in its time. Like Jay said, that marble mantel! Just so, so wonderful. Exterior quoins on a Federal house always get me excited to see the kind of fancy details inside. The newel posts on the first and second floors had me laughing! They’re just so….inelegant compared to the rest of the stair, but hey—they’ve been there a long time too.

The kitchen is so special just the way it is. Some open shelves, a work table and I’d be quite happy. Too big for me, and wrong side of the state, but WOW. Just so much to like here. I need to go back and look at these pictures again.

WOW! Stunning! The kitchen looks perfect! And those doors! And floors!

I must say, I am a bit shocked at the price given the location and the amount of land.

  11. Funny story with this home!
2 months ago my husband and I went to the house across the street (which is also for sale) to look at a settee for sale. It was too far gone to buy, but as we were there we noticed this home for sale. The caretaker told us it was already sold.
My husband and I are house hunting and would love a home with much character.
So a few days ago I’m scrolling through this site and see this house!!! I’m looking at the pictures and come across the settee and I’m like…that looks familiar, then I’m like…that’s the house that she said sold, back on the market!!!
We are going to look at it this weekend. I heard there are some foundation issues (my heart sank) and I’m hoping they are minor!! But with a home of this age, I don’t know…..all we can do is go look and find out for sure what’s going on.
I am feeling a meant to be thing here! I have my fingers crossed!!! Please oh beautiful universe work with us! <3

  12. Thank you!
I will let you know for sure.

  13. Good morning.
    So viewed this home yesterday.
It does have some gorgeous features for sure. It has 3 staircases which surprised me! We were almost getting lost at one point. I am assuming they were for servants at the back entrances. The chandelier is amazing!
Unfortunately we will not be purchasing.

This has a kitchen hearth AND a bake oven!! Swoon. I’d keep the kitchen just like it is, except to add a refrigerator, work table, and an antique cabinet. What a gorgeous home.
