This property would offer a unique opportunity for a project that doesn’t become available often. This stone home is thought to have a built date of the original part of the home dating back to the 1790’s. The construction of the added addition to the home is thought to have occurred in the early 1800’s. The limestone blends in well, resulting in a limestone home, with 22” thick rock walls, with 2560 sq.ft. of finished floor space. Much of the original architectural features remain. There is random width hardwood flooring on the main level. There are 3 woodburning fireplaces. Many of the original doors exist. High ceilings and short doorways were typical from those dates. Each of the two sections of the house has one large main room with stairs to a bedroom and bath above. There are fireplaces at each end of the house. There are walk-up attic stairs to a floored attic. The log roof trusses reflect originality. There is a newer metal roof. Over the years, an updated kitchen was added with oak finish cabinetry and imported tile from Spain covering the countertops and back-splash. Over the years, 2 bathrooms were added on the upper level with a ½ bath and laundry closet added on the main level. There is rear-door access to a patio area with a 40x20 inground pool (needs to be reconditioned, and a new liner added if the pool is to be used). There is no formal heating or air conditioning system. A private well and septic system services the property (underground electric service). There are a few structures on the land; a stone “shed” (used in the past for storage), a few other sheds that need attention, a couple of mobile homes that were also used mainly for storage, and a mobile home unit that is hooked to it’s own septic system. The land is in 4 separate lots, all contiguous. The home is on 8+ acres, while the land around it gives you a total of 33.3 acres to utilize. There are absolutely no covenants or restrictions, only abiding by any Berkeley County restrictions. The property originally had over 100 acres. Interstate 81 came along in past years, bordering the property to the east. To the west, the subdivision known as Apple Tree Farm was created, offering nice homes on acreage sized lots. Use of Apple Tree Farm roads are utilized to get to this property. No offering of road maintenance dues is required. The family refers to this property as Qual Meadows Farm. The home may have been built back in the late 1790s by the Payne Family, a name that is well known locally. I’ll check to see if I can find out more history about this home. It is stated that the structure was used to treat patients from the Civil War. The property is located at the Virginia/West Virginia state line. Annual taxes paid to Berkeley County, WV are $879.
