What an old lovely dear! If I bought this house, I would trade my labor at the Cross house for Ross’s advice on how to restore this one.

Pics from Ross! Designed by the same architect as the Cross House, Charles W. Squires.

      Thanks, Kelly!

I love love love this house. In person, the interior has a very seductive quality, particularly the upstairs which has a lost-in-time quality.

Obviously, the first-floor paneling needs to go, and other updates are required. I would work with a paint lab to ascertain the original colors because the right paint scheme would really make the exterior pop!

I am wondering if the ill=fitting paneling is because of the height of the ceilings in older houses? I thought in “the day” they were sold in standard 5×8? They must have wanted the paneling here real bad…

I have run into this situation a lot in various old houses. Many had ceiling heights in the 10-12 foot range, and trailer paneling has ALWAYS only come in 4X8 sheets. I recently worked on a house much like this one, and it gave me such great joy to rip all that stuff off…..I was happy for days afterward!

I love the link to Ross’ post on this house: you can see Ross’ passion for the details and it definitely rubs off on you. I believe that the realtor should direct the buyer to Ross to help them to restore this beauty properly. Also, there is a reflection of the handsome Ross in the window of one of the pics! Fun to be able to put a face with the knowledge!

Yes, I loved seeing you face, Ross. I always wondered what you looked like, and I enjoy your (sometimes silly) comments.
