Built date on record is 1900 which is not correct. I’m guessing this is 1840’s or earlier.

Am I seeing things or is the main power meter mounted right next to the front door with conduit running down the siding from a weatherhead on the frieze board? Is that a telephone line running down the right pilaster? The house itself is lovely with strong Greek Revival details. The rear ell(kitchen?) is likely newer, although I can’t see enough to tell much. It looks to connect to another, smaller structure that maybe could have been an old outbuilding.

It sure looks like it! I guess they don’t have much of a building code in Andes, NY!

This is a beautiful area of the western Catskill Mountains, and a classic farmhouse that would surely shine with a bit of TLC.

I am curious, though, not being familiar with standard building codes – what would need to be done to bring the power supply meter up to code? I have a similarly attached power meter – although on the side of the house – and many other houses in my area have the same kind of set-up…

Most likely that complies with Code, though unsightly. The power company installs service in a convenient place, usually OK’d by the owner. Underground is best, but costs $.

Local codes and standards may vary, but typically the power company sets the meter and the telephone/ cable company locates their demarc. My point was it was immensely disrespectful to locate both on the front of this fine antebellum house. Both should be run underground(preferred) or routed to the rear or side least visible.

Looks like a lot of work is needed, and most of it is cosmetic. I agree that the meter at the front door needs to go. Love all the kitchen cupboards but the plan needs updating. The acreage is great–lots of privacy and wonderful views. Just a few chickens and some landscaping with lovely flowers would make this “home” to me.

I wish there were more pics inside but I really love this home & the setting is just beautiful! The elec meter is similar at my home yet to the back.
