This has the potential to be a cutie. I’d keep the red for the exterior repaint. I’m seeing the yard filled with flowers and maybe a little fence around the front yard.

And if this one doesn’t do it for you there are a couple others in Lagrange:

Agreed. The house itself is an Italianate “lite” version with the formal newel post and balustrade being the only distinctive Italianate details. A two color scheme would work fine for this simple design. I see no evidence of the requisite eave corbels but there may have been some originally. As for the other two La Grange examples, both are more formal and priced accordingly. The grand Italianate listed first is in the Wow! category

I’d say the slight arched window crowns, eave overhang are also Italianate features. I can’t tell if those are ghosts of brackets under the eaves or a bump to mimic them.

Sorry, I left out the segmented arched window crowns so I agree. As for evidence of eave corbels, a closer look would be needed.

I like the red too. When I looked at the kitchen, at first I thought “oh, they had one of those double-oven ranges” (you know one full size above the cooktop) and then I noticed the cutout for the double-wall ovens that were removed to the right.

This does have a lot of potential.

Oh this house would get me on one walk through. I only wish I were in the market in Lagrange, IN. So. Much. Potential.

A good project house! Room by room, this house could keep a weekend DIYer busy for a long time. Plenty of room and a low price to start for a working family.

I like the woodwork in the archway at the top of the stairs too. I wonder if there was originally something similar between the front hall and living room.
