National Register Property
Located in the heart of the Wethersfield Historic District, the Captain James Francis House has much of it's original 1793 components in tact. Situated on over 1 1/4 acres, it has been used for many years as a museum and for educational purposes by the Wethersfield Historical Society. Recent efforts have enhanced it's structural integrity along with a newer wood shingle roof (2012) and gas furnace (2006). The main house is brick with a wood framed rear extension and a separate summer kitchen for a total square footage in excess of 2, 500. With 4 bedrooms, 2 blue stone capped chimneys, walk-up attic and a full basement with poured concrete floor, this special home exudes warmth and charm. The large kitchen fireplace draws well, has a bee hive oven and has been used for years in the Historical Society Cookies over the coals program for young children. Currently no kitchen or full bathroom is present and would have to be added to get a CO. Old Wethersfield is the largest historic district in Connecticut, has 50 homes built prior to the Revolution and another 250 constructed before or shortly after the Civil War. Most all are lived in daily. It is a short walk to the Wethersfield Cove and the shops and restaurants of Main Street as well as the Alfred Hanmer Elementary School and the Mikey's Place Playground. As the owner of this special home, you can walk the streets of history in your own neighborhood.
