I wish I was in a position to buy this for my summer home. Beautiful house, a shame it doesn’t come with a professional stripper like me. I am referring to the paint on the woodwork, of course. My guess would be that there are one or more noble woods under that white paint. I agree that it is great with the paint, yet my personal feeling is that it would pop off of the page if the paint is removed and the woodwork is properly refinished.

That was exactly my first thought when I saw the staircase! This would be such a fun project during the summer months…stripping the front hall would be my first project. Stripping by day and enjoying the view of the water from the porch at night.

Couldn’t have said it better myself, absolutely in agreement with you, when does the project begin?

I guess I’m only 12 years old, because you said “professional stripper” and my mind went in a totally different direction. Eyeroll…at ME!

        Hi Doreen,
-As a professional furniture restorer since 1980, when asked what I do, I have used that line for many years, tongue in cheek, in order for people to come up with your first conclusion. You were supposed to think that at first and your response made my day. Thank you for sharing that thought.
-It is likely that I am the twelve year old, but, at 61, I like that idea.

Beautiful location, but I totally agree, it would take the rest of my life to strip and refinish all to the original woodwork; I am sure there is some beautiful wood under all those layers of paint. History would absolutely reach out to you if the original finishes were brought back!

I’m just speechless….. I don’t know where to start gushing….If I were only 25 years younger, I would buy it now! Not quite sure Canada would take me, though. Ha!

Another strikingly beautiful antique home full of fine, lovely things. Wow. That hall paper is everything.

    On water = sigh….

Smart wood burning stove! Those guys don’t fool around up there. Nice.

This home radiates love, and smart good taste.

I say we all chip in, sign up for two week stays, spend the mornings stripping and the afternoons basking in the amenities…

Great idea, I’m totally in agreement with you. It is a peaceful, serene location, but all that paint needs to go.

This is one of those déjà vu. You just know you lived here in another lifetime. Maybe it was a dream. That exterior just feels like home. Just beautiful.

Other than the funky/weird stove pipe in picture #18, I wouldn’t change a thing! I even, for some odd reason, LOVE the wallpaper and the carpet runner (stairs). Oh be still my heart!

I just LOVE everything about this place! I could live there forever. I don’t mind the painted woodwork, in fact it so brightens up the interior. The colors, the furnishings, the wallpaper, everything is perfect!!! (except for the room with the leather couch and wood stove.) Even the Mansard style roof doesn’t bother me, and usually, I can’t stand them…then there’s the porch and the view of the water…just imagine a hot August day with a soft breeze off the water, a good book and a glass of home made Lemonade, as you gently rock on the porch swing, back and forth, back and forth……ahhh!

I’m with Susan. The house is adorable and the painted woodwork is lovely just the way it is. I’ve lovingly restored many old homes over the years. Sometimes trim left unpainted is the way to go, and sometimes painted woodwork is perfectly appropriate and a beautiful choice.

I must respectfully disagree – the wood selected at the time for staircases of this style was meant to see the light of day – if that at least was exposed, the rest of the paint might be much more tolerable…

The carpet on the stairs matches the beautiful wallpaper. What a perfect, pretty home.

Beautiful home and perfect LOCATION! PEI is an amazing place with Pink Sand and small foot print. You can walk the entire island in no time flat. The food is good but the winters are terribly cold. The wood stove will help with heating costs and make this place a dream. I have always loved PEI and highly recommend everyone take a trip to explore this wonderful little piece of heaven!
