Time Machine Property for Sale!

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning and absolutely unique '1939 House' a three - bedroom property complete 'as is' with all furnishings and fittings.

The property in Burton-on-Stather, North Lincolnshire, is being offered complete and ready to escape to and includes a vast array of 1940's memorabilia and household items. Amazingly the property is complete with an Anderson bomb shelter in the garden!

Featured in National Press, BBC and ITV, this 'once in a lifetime' museum quality property has been lovingly restored to it's appearance in the 1940's with an incredible array of period features, fixtures and fittings.

To enter the 1939 House is to take a step into the past – just like Nicholas Lyndhurst stepping through a portal in Goodnight Sweetheart.

As soon as you enter the property, you are transported back in time, helped along by the reassuring sound of the mantle clock ticking away. Entering through the ‘blackout’ curtains over the main period door, the stunning lounge is complete with original gorgeous open fireplace. The furniture from the seating, small table and chairs, to the floor cupboards, mirrors, pictures and bookcase are all period correct.

A framed photograph of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth takes pride of place on the wall. Not so much a Groundhog Day as a Groundhog Year. Beautiful chinaware and other ornaments are found on the mantle and window ledge. Rugs and carpets are laid over the original floorboards. For entertainment, an original fully functional Gramophone is ready to play. The modern electricity distribution board is cleverly hidden away under a Union Flag.

The lounge leads onto the period earthenware tiled Kitchen, home to the bespoke built coal fired range, used for heating, cooking and hot water, the cottage style pine breakfast table and over mantle clothes dryer. The hardwood units and sideboards are filled with bone china crockery, cutlery, cookware, storage tins, pots and pans, and linen. There is an under stair’s walk-in larder pantry and door and window onto the Scullery.

The Scullery at the rear of property is complete from its washing Belfast sink, and clothes mangle, galvanised bath tub to the original period food storage cupboards and 1940 kitchen units. You can smell carbolic soap and suds as the washing is done with a posher and a dolly tub.

Travelling back to the 1940’s continues as you go up the staircase to the three bedrooms. The main bedroom overlooking the stables opposite the property is complete with all period correct features from the brass bedstead to the Art Deco and CC41 wardrobe, tables and chairs. This bedroom is complimented by a beautiful cast iron and tile open fireplace, with a small over mantle.

Along the hall from the main bedroom, you find the two smaller bedrooms overlooking the rear garden and again period correct with beds, wardrobes and dressing tables and chairs and accessories.

A side passage leads to the outdoor store/coal bunker and outdoor toilet. An award winning private rear garden completes the property with its tranquil range of beautiful flowers and bedding plants. The Anderson shelter is found at the rear of the garden.

Rob Robertson, Head of History, University of Hull visited the 1939 house with ITV's good Morning Britain, rather excitedly said ‘The 1939 House is incredibly authentic, right down to the bottom and the finger tips, a great place’.

This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase complete, a stunningly unique 1940’s home or as a commercial rental airb&b or holiday let property; the interest in this period has never been so strong.
