I think I’ll have to reapply my antiperspirant! I got so excited I started to sweat!
Woodwork, lighting, bathrooms, fireplaces, period wallpaper, tiling…..(sigh) it’s perfect!

Something that will cool you down a bit (although this is a lovely property!) is the fact that the property taxes are nearing $10,000/year. I feel like lately all I talk about is the insane property taxes in Illinois but it’s a terrible feeling, paying basically a second mortgage and getting nothing out of it; like being held hostage by a state that just gets worse fiscally every day. Sorry for the rant, but we’re looking at leaving the state because we just can’t see a future here 🙁

I agree. And guaranteed to go up quite a bit when you buy it. I paid off my home mortgage but still had to pay a fortune every month!

It’s not a rant but a sad fact of life.
There are 15 houses in a 5 block radius (from my house) for sale.
My sister and her family already left the state and In a few months we will also.

My stepchild needs continued medical care and moving 2,000 miles is now the logical solution instead of staying in the state where we were born and most of our families are.

I wouldn’t mind the taxes if we even got a small benefit from them but we don’t and they continue to go up.
It’s like people like us don’t matter.
Maybe they will start to learn because Illinois is one of the top states losing taxpayers in record numbers.

That’s the pits: California is worse, but this place would go for 3 million in the right location in CA. Crazy stuff these here days.

My friend, it’s not just Illinois, I’d love to scoop up that next mansion, there are wonderful places in Connecticut with obscene real estate taxes, affordable other locations in the U.S. with great structures until you seek the tax base. After mid terms I’ll be talking with a state rep here in Minnesota on this scenario. Thanks for the info on this beauty I was just checking on it’s tax base. Be well!

The home is remarkable, however, the taxes are becoming a consideration in many areas. Our home in Louisville’s rural horse country, on three acres was just shy of 12k. It creeps up every year to support the exceptional schools, but pricing many out of the area. Not sure of the answers, or the cure.

Thanks’ Sarah Erwin for providing this link about Millikin Place in the share. She echos the gloom and doom about Illinois and it’s tax and spend woes. We certainly have seen many Illini moving here to low tax / vast surplus Indiana. Heheheh. Me – if I had that kind of money, I’d happily suck it up to live in this fine home all cuddled up with some great Wright houses. Looks lovely!
