Victorian charmer with many original features is ready for its makeover. Soaring ceilings, huge rooms, floor to ceiling windows, long leaf pine wood floors, gorgeous banister and stairwell, intricate fretwork and beadboard wainscoting. Built in the 1890's, this grand structure could be a great family home, a fabulous bed and breakfast or and incredible office space. First and second floor wrap around porches span the front of the house and provide views to the courthouse and square.

I was disappointed to see the home didn’t actually face the square and courthouse but rather a business/storage/parking lot/something. The town square is a few streets over. I guess you could see the courthouse if you are in the attic or perhaps the 2nd floor balcony (a pic from there would have been nice.)

Down town looks awesome as can be: https://goo.gl/maps/QtZuUL3z4Zu

La Grange is a nice place to live. Wish there were more interior pics – looks like it might be really well preserved. Not a great location, looks commercialized, but creative landscaping with hedges could make a huge difference.

“La Grange” – perhaps an inspiration for the blues-rock trio ZZ top? Love that exterior with those classic porches. something about it whispers New Orleans!

Funny: I was thinking the same thing. I just hope this wasn’t the house they were singing about.

I wish there were more, better pictures. The outside is very interesting, but what shows of the inside leaves much to the imagination. I agree, the area is not attractive, but then many old homes are in neighborhoods which have unfortunately deteriorated. That courthouse is gorgeous though!

I see we have the obligatory abandoned piano, which in this case looks old enough to have some value as an antique, though probably not as an instrument.

I live in the next town 13 miles away. La Grange is a lovely town yet they didn’t have the foresight to designate a Historic District as Smithville did. There are some absolutely gorgeous old houses surrounded by others equally beautiful. Alas, what can one do about an ugly brick yard ?

I did not expect this house to be as captivating as it is, even with the general lack of pictures. The view from the front is rather unfortunate. I still love the house, though. I always *say* I want to sit on the porch and drink tea or coffee, but ask me how many times I’ve actually done it. And I have a perfectly good porch.

If this one were local, I would go view it. It has a personality/vibe/allure to it. I can’t put my finger on the right words for it. It also feels as if it’s been empty for awhile. I’d be interested in seeing the state of the kitchen and bathrooms.

Reminds me of the Chicken Ranch.
