so when are we thinking? 1840a? 1850s?

Zillow says 1900 but I agree that it looks older than that. The stair railing appears pre-Victorian but without inclusion of the newel post, hard to be sure. Could be 1830-ish?

I like that the kitchen and bathroom appear to be in the addition and not forced into the original historical structure.

    Good morning!

I believe I know this home. I worked for a regional preservation organization in the Shenandoah Valley, and visited Elkton several times.

In my opinion, the style and interior woodwork of this house are typical of a good class of farmhouses built between perhaps 1820 and 1830. There used to be a good number of them. I hope there still are. I haven’t been there in some 30 years.

That mantel is stunning, and the staircase is no slouch. The handrail is ramped as it reaches the landing, an indication of an early date, as Richard and Laurie W. suggest, 1815-1830.

I’d love to own it if there was a job anywhere nearby.

Pretty good prices in Elkton, in general. Lots of cool old houses! My wife and I looked at a few until one hit the market about a mile from her job in Harrisonburg, and half a mile from mine. Would have loved to be so close to Shenandoah National Park, though!
