This was on the site some time ago. I don’t recall what the interior looked like before, I know i was a fixer back then.

This is a lot of house for the price. Sadly, it appears that most original items are long gone. Wonder if there are any pics that would show the missing stained glass window so that it could be reproduced if not found in the basement. Stairway is very nice. Couldn’t find on street view so no clue about the neighborhood, but many possibilities here.

I love how the old family piano is included in a lot of these Victorian homes.

Kelly, I seem to remember this house being featured on OHD a year or so ago. As I recall, back then it had furnishings inside the house and may have had some additional features now missing. Not a bad larger house for the price although Sullivan, Indiana, is a small town about 27 miles due south of the much larger city of Terre Haute. Might be commutable for someone working in the bigger town. No streetview available for this section of Sullivan so it must be a fairly sleepy small town. If we ever can sell our Fort Worth, TX Victorian, the Sullivan house might be worth taking a look at but I wonder why its been on/off the market for years?

Nice look on the house as far as possible curb appeal. I like the different patterns on the floors on the main floor rooms, although they need a bit of work. seems like a lot of house but there is also a lot of work to do as well.

I grew up in Indiana and went to church in Terra Haute. We drove through Sullivan every week. It is on an old state highway (2 lanes) between Linton & Terra Haute. I do not recall the town as having any businesses, maybe one small grocery story/ gas station. The town was built on the coal industry and long since declined. Many of these small towns that were not on the Interstate Highway declined as the coal did. Most kids had to move to bigger cities to get jobs. These small towns are disproportional low employment and the choices are
    1. join the military 2. go to college 3. get a factory job in another town, 4. keep up the family farm.
Terra Haute is a State University town in Vigo County. Vigo County is a bell weather microcosm of the nation as they have a long standing record for accuracy in their vote for President. Terra Haute is the closest place to get a hotel (Howard Johnsons), find a nice restaurant, shop for groceries and household goods. I doubt very much that there is any taxi service, no local buses and probably not even on the Greyhound route. It is rather isolated among farms that range from 40 – 400 acres typically. The main crops are corn and soy beans. Fair climate to raise a garden. The region has 4 distinct seasons, unlike CA. It does get enough snow to cancel school a few days.
The primary form of sports in the region is basketball. Baseball is mostly for little league. Fishing and hunting were
part of self sufficiency when I lived there. Larry Bird, the basketball player lived in the next small town Jasonville,
It is a VERY QUIET small town where women still make quilts and home can vegetables & fruit. Church and basketball are the highlights of social life. Indiana is primarily a Republican state but every few years they get disgusted and vote Democrat with the University towns. Family, church, farming and basketball in that order are the values held in this midsection of the state.

Sullivan is the biggest town in Sullivan county also the county seat. 2016 census shows just over 4100 pop. There is still coal jobs. 1 high school and 1 elementary. It does have a Walmart, Casey’s, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Burger King, Papa Johns, Subway, Arby’s local pizza,1 mexican food and 1 chinese food eating places, several bars, couple of liquor stores, Goodwill. And 5+ gas stations. Small hotel. There is a local grocery that delivers and also a local pharmacy that delivers as well as a CVS. A jail. Terre Haute is the closest big town. This house is a block off the old 2 lane h’way on the corner. It love seeing it. My Great Aunt lived across the street. The main h’way 41 (4 lane) bypasses the town so it is easy to get on that and go to Terre Haute (north) or Vincennes or Evansville (south). IL is about 12ish miles to the west. Larry Bird is from French Lick, where there is a beautiful resorted hotel with gambling. lol the reference to Howard Johnsons in Terre Haute brought back memories, it has been gone at least 30 yrs.

Oh why can’t that be here in my town?! Beautiful, I’d buy that in a heartbeat. One room at a time give it the love & attention it needs.

It still has a beautiful staircase and and grand looking foyer with fireplace, and it still has clawfoot, at least that bathroom is still cute, the other bathroom with the yucky shower, all that could be redone, kitchen needs a lot of TLC … I like this house!

According to the agent (Letitia Bennett) I’ve been in contact with in Terre Haute, the asking price for this property is (as of 8/13/2018) now $30,000. I haven’t been able to verify this on any of the big real estate sites as they are still showing $70,000 (maybe yet to be updated?) but if this lower figure is correct then it represents an extreme bargain. The listing agent for the property is REBECCA RING at ACCESS REAL ESTATE CO – OFC: 812-268-0200 so any interested parties should contact her. Wish we were in a position to go look at this house assuming the lower price is correct. Someone may get the old house deal of a lifetime assuming the new lower price is correct.

Realtor dot com is showing the new price as $30K so this looks legitimate.
