1409 Elk St, Franklin, PA 16323
1409 Elk Street - The Samuel F. Dale House listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. A portion of these comments were adapted from a copy of the original nomination document. The home is a large red brick, 2-story residence in the Italianate style, built in 1875. Most of the exterior window glass is original. A porch extends across the main facade and across the back. There are 4 sets of entrance doors, each arched, and carved out of walnut with the original oval etched glass inserts still intact. The interior of the home has undergone few changes since its construction which include removal of 2 interior walls, 2 of the 8 fireplaces, and the kitchen was replaced in 1972. Meanwhile, a chandelier, carved wood ceiling trim, and parquet floor in the dining room remain original along with most of the hardware, door knobs, locks, etc. A gabled wing of the home has a solarium with a sleeping porch above. A brick carriage house has been converted into a five-car garage.
