    In my book there’s nothing finer than a great Italianate farm house, and this one certainly fills the bill, Solid as a rock: when you see a cantilevered stair like that with no plaster cracks underneath, and no 4×4 post tucked under half way up, you’ll know you’re looking at a house that is a ROCK SOLID quality build. Unfortunately this house lost it’s original mantles and porch around + or – 1905. The mantles, (though perfectly nice catalogue fare of that later period), are not really in harmony with the earlier architecture; as are for example the mantles in this house which was featured recently;
    The loss of the original porch is less significant IMO since it was replaced with an even larger, full sized porch which is solid and very generous.
    The original, converted gasolier in the front hall is surely a nice piece to still have: but the best thing about this house is the original gas fixture on the brick privy out back to light your way to relief in the dark of night! Yes it’s missing its jet and glass, but were it mine it would be my FIRST – fun – restoration project! Rosewater, are there people who make new period mantels that you could order? It seems like it would be a good business providing architectural period mantles for those old homes that were re-muddled at one time.

      If I had was to venture a guess, I believe this to be a smoke house, or a different outbuilding. The size and construction make it unlikely to be an outhouse.

    Beautiful old home that has been well cared for, perfect. I wouldn’t even change out the kitchen. Love it. A lot.

    Beautiful old House! Love the staircase and claw foot tub, not to mention the gorgeous wood work. To find such a house on property is such a bonus.
