18 Perry St, Petersburg, VA 23803
Remarkable renovation opportunity! Largely unaltered, this two and one-half story, early Federal jewel is the rarest of finds. Built between 1790-1820, it was the residence and home of Robert Dunn McIlwaine, later a captain in the Confederate Army. McIlwaine lived there until 1856, when he moved the house several hundred feet from the corner of Perry and W Washington to its current location to make way for a magnificent new Italianate home. The Jonathan Smith School House is frame with a gable roof and a one story porch. It is in the Folly Castle Historic District, which makes it eligib...le for the Historic Rehab Tax Credit program, a powerful financial incentive for undertaking the full-scale renovation this important building deserves.
