I love this house! Especially those gorgeous old wide wooden floors!

That’s the least creepy basement of that age I’ve ever seen! Well done all around – nothing like white walls, big windows, and that bright winter afternoon light to make a girl love an old house.

  4. What, pray tell am I missing? 5+ acres and an old historic home form under $200,000?

Charming, but location is pretty much “middle of nowhere”. When I see this situation, I usually have to zoom out quite a bit on google maps to see where the nearest grocery store is.

      Location, location, location

Nearest grocery store is less than 15 minutes away (SavALot), there’s an Aldi & Walmart 18 minutes away. Didn’t have time to look for much else (hardware store, etc.) but hardly middle of nowhere. Rochester is 48 minutes away.

I guess I’m pretty spoiled in this area. I don’t mean to disparage, and if you like the atmosphere of privacy/lower cost housing, location (and the winters) are the tradeoff. When there are comments about “why so low” the answer is usually the simplest – a lower demand area (even if very nice).

If it suits your lifestyle, these properties are a great financial deal.

(a Trulia check shows fairly low housing costs in this town, and lots of defaults/forclosure)

Oh man – the amazingly large rooms and great layout. I’m so jealous of this one! Converted carriage houses are my favorite 🙂

I usually don’t go for the style but the price, the land, the workshop for my ever busy handy husband, the quiet area … I would make this home, darn it I’m Canadian, I need to find something like this in my province. Great steal of deal with a great house, it’s jaw dropping.

This place has some great features. The fireplaces with the deep hearths and curved metal ?lintels? are very handsome. Anyone have any insights on them? So many fireplaces (with or without stoves) don’t have flameproof materials far enough around them. If you get a really rip-roaring fire going, sparks do tend to fly out!

Really like Salt Box houses. Very nice with barns (sheds)etc. floors etc. Looks good and I love it being quiet and with nice land.

can’t…. breathe….. its perfect, absolutely perfect. I didn’t see any pot arms though… never mind…I have to go call my banker….

This is near the area where we live & we saw this on Craigslist too. Not the most desirable area, but I would like to consider this one. Dansville has been hurt financially, but we have business pursuits in other areas. Hoping my husband will let me go see this one & maybe it’s the one. Have dreamed about the Victorian grandeur, but this one could change my mind.

I like the plain austerity of this place, unpretentious.

This use to be my house! I lived there as a child growing up. I loved this house! Lots of room and lots of memories here! Close to Dansville for shopping and Geneseo.
