Although I usually swoon over the houses covered in miles and miles of period correct wallpaper and floors with their original finish, its rather refreshing to see a home tastefully updated in such a way as not to destroy or lose any character, while at the same time it maintains a ‘modern’ look. Well done, homeowners!

I agree completely, though I don’t care for the white exterior. Your comment is refreshing as well, although your Restoration Club membership may be revoked.

That gave me a good chuckle Jim! I totally agree with you about the bad case of ‘white blight’. That’s an easy, (albeit expensive) fix though. Who said I wanted a spot in the club anyway, huh?! All that money saved on membership dues could fund my own little restoration! 😉

I would paint the outside and stain the wood floors darker, but I adore the kitchen and the interior in general. Really nice!

Absolutely beautiful home! I could really see myself living here. I
absolutely LOVE that ceiling in the kitchen!

To my eyes, the photos seem to make the rooms look large or maybe they actually are. The layout of the house also makes me wonder if the original house was smaller and later on it was expanded with the tower, but in any case its a modest example of the Queen Anne style. Nice details throughout, especially the tin ceiling in the kitchen. As for exterior colors, because this house lacks a lot of intricate details that some flashy Queen Annes have, probably a two or three color palette would work best. I saw no evidence of an exterior chimney and the gas insert in the (Parlor?) mantel is modern so the antique mantel may be a later retrofit as well. Even if that’s the case, it is a good match with the period and style of the house. As others have noted, the house does seems to be a carefully chosen compromise between modern and period decor inside. Lot size is said to be “more than 11,000 sq. feet” which seems an unusual way of stating it.

This home is wonderful and so inviting. Makes me “homesick” looking at it and I have never lived in MN! Truly a gem in a neighborhood of other gems. What an adorable town too! http://www.discoverstillwater.com/

What a beauty! That Dining Room with the little bit of fussy purple wallpaper and matching paint is perfect! I really love the built ins in there! This is just a lovely house and even the outside is landscaped so perfectly!

Very comfy looking house. Nice sized lot with old growth trees. The town reminds me of Mayberry.
