I was going to say it’s worth buying for the outbuildings alone — and that great skinny little door on the enclosed porch at the rear, with the pediment overlapping the cornerboard. But then I saw the interior which is superb, the best 18thC interiors I’ve seen on OHD in a while.

The great Buick-wide center hall is a real asset. I was hoping to scratch out a photo of the stair, but no such luck (the photo of the center hall is looking toward the rear, and though it almost looks as though the photographer might have ascended a step or two, I can’t imagine the main stairs crammed around the front door — and lopping off the fanlight? The hallway upstairs would be interesting to see, too.

It’s on a street with some similarly early and similarly large houses. It is a big hulk of a house as the aerial photo shows.

I don’t know the Hartford area well, but the price seems surprisingly low even for a place that needs significant work. A lesson, maybe, in how the purchase price is often the least worry on some historic houses — against repairs and ongoing maintenance and, in this case, steep property taxes and fitting out the better part of 8000sq.ft. with 18thC furniture.

This one is nice and it needs some TLC on the property but I agree the taxes are very steep. A nice place for someone who can afford this lovely home.
