The Gamble House, circa 1856. According to architectural historian, Tom Braxton, the Gamble home is of the period known as Plantation Style. It is a one story frame Greek Revival, which features large square columns, a spacious front porch, a wide central hall, high ceilings, tall windows (many with the original glass) and side lights around the front door. Construction is of heavy pine timbers which are pinned together with wooden pegs. The kitchen was originally built some distance from the house, but was later connected with the main structure. An interesting story is told that when the old plaster in the house was being replaced an old coin dated 1856 was found between the hand made wooden slats. It is believed that the coin was placed there when the house was constructed. The Gamble home is part of the Fort Dale/College St. Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. "Property to be sold as is."
