I’ve never seen a house with columns quite like those before, they seem very unusual and I would question whether they are actually original. But other than that this would be a great restoration project and look wonderful when finished, provided that it doesn’t lose any original features in the process.

My home is an 1863 Greek Revival that has been in my family since it was built and the old front porch columns were exactly as the ones pictured on this house. Unfortunately my father took the wrap around porch off the home in the late 1970’s (and then immediately regretted it) but we have many family pictures with the columns clearly pictured. We also have an original print of the home in all its glory (date unknown) and you can see the porch column design quite well. Please accept these as proof that the columns on the 1847 Greek Revival home are true to style and original in design.
      Sincerely, Kathryn Creighton Brethour
