State: Massachusetts
Massachusetts has some of the oldest homes in the country, and it shows in the best way. You’ll find 18th-century Capes with central chimneys, Georgian and Federal-style homes with symmetrical lines, and Greek Revivals with wide trim and transom windows. In towns and villages across the state, there are also Gothic Revivals, Italianates, and early Colonial Revivals — many with original wood floors, paneling, and fireplaces still in place. Some homes remain untouched after generations. Others have been restored with care to preserve their historic soul. If you’re drawn to hand-hewn beams, early hardware, and homes that echo the earliest days of American life, you’ll find it in Massachusetts.
