Own a piece of History! 1. 330 Kansas - Beautiful historic stone house that was mentioned in Little House on the Prairie. Would make a great bed and breakfast or antique store. New roof installed 2 years ago. This building needs renovation but might be eligible for historic tax funds. 2. 404 Kansas - Totally remodeled old bank building, was a beauty shop before but would be great for any office or business. Beautiful metal embossed ceiling, hardwood floors, bank teller window and original vault door!

Sorry to say the newest street view shows it boarded up and part of the porch collapsed.

Posted in 2010. I kept the 2010 photos but as you can see, the home has deteriorated since.

If this is the house mentioned in the book “On The Way Home”, this may be the reference, “We reached Lane at 4 o’clock…The blacksmith came from Kentucky two years ago and looks just like the pictures of a Kentucky man. He has 130 acres of bottom land running down to Pottawatomie River, and a stone house as large as any house in De Smet. It is very handsome and perfectly finished. The house stands on Main Street in Lane and the land lies northwest from it. He is going back to Kentucky and wants to sell. Asks $4300 for shop, house and land.”

The listing photos with the pics is a tad confusing, I think both commercial buildings come with…?

The porch was not the original one; it probably dated to around 1915 or so. The original porch would have likely been Queen Anne in style and not so boxy. Still, it’s sad to see the house so unloved.

Sad that this house has been let go so much. The price seems awfully high to me, even if it is for 2 dwellings. Hopefully someone will buy this house and make it a home again and love will abound.

Those were my thoughts also, LisaLou. Seems a very high price for this area for this condition. But could be nice if done right.

Can anyone tell me what the flooring is in the 2010 photos (one with the fireplace and the following one with the dark blue trim)? Is it linoleum, or is the floor painted?

I think most of the pictures are carpet. What a shame for this poor old house. Not too much in the way of current pictures. I worry for this house.

This house has been reduced to $60,000 and has a new roof!

If I could buy it, a porch would have to be added on sooner than later. It just looks odd without a porch. Boy I wish I could win the lottery! I would love this house!

Does it not have any windows anymore?
