Circa 1800's stately Victorian has been lovingly cared for & preserved with much of its originality & character intact. Known as "The Elms", the estate is situated on a double wide lot of an acre in the city, backs onto park like setting and is 15 minutes to Hwy 403. The main inspiration of the home when built was “Gothic style” and the interior of the home is a work of the finest craftsmanship. Most rooms have original plank floorings & woodwork. The front vestibule, a room in itself with centre hall plan, original staircase & decorative ceilings & walls. An octagonal wooden cupola with pointed arch windows rises from the centre of the roof line & lights up the interior landing & staircase. Many ceilings are arched or trayed & adorned with ornate wood carvings, some with delicate wood ribs & droopends. 5 original fireplaces, some inscripted with the “Bown” family crest including the chimney stack. Original stained glass windows & many of the bay & oriole windows have been restored. 2 upper baths professionally redone keeping with the character of the home. Infloor heat in baths & kitchen, reshingled roof '03, garage door & frieze work, soffits & fascia, central air, driveway lights, boiler system & electrical '06 - completed by current owners.

I’m moving in tomorrow. Wowsers!!… Exceptional.
Wow, what a great surprise this interior was! I wasn’t expecting much Gothic feeling to be in there, but instead it’s totally loaded with gothic details. Great, great interior here! The front door and its surround is also gorgeous. And all that wood! I. Want. This. House.
Oh, and that corner shower with the folding wood doors is fun. too.
Love it,love it,love it! Those ceilings and window seats and all the odd angles and nooks and crannies. I love everything except the red kitchen floor. Do you think someone was planning a murder when those were put in lol.
Oh this is perfection. I love love love this house. I would not change one thing. Even the red tile is fantastic. Move in ready yes I am packing right now.lol!! Wood work is out of this world! 🙂
Lovely Gothic Revival home with many surviving details. The abundance of fine interior woods is fairly common for Canadian homes and the colder climate helps to preserve older homes from decay and destroying insects. I know Victorian houses in Canada only loosely parallel U.S. styles and the Gothic Revival enjoyed a longer period of popularity there than it did in the U.S. Oh..and last, I can’t take any credit for this one-the other “John S.” is to be thanked. We also have a “John C.” with informative postings-I hope he finds time to post again in the future.
Beautiful. Closer to an English country house than most American Gothics with all the Tudor arches etc. Love the built-in clock. Not a big fan of blonde brick and the white trim would have to change; the landscape of 50’s ranch houses is unfortunate. Can’t be perfect I guess.
Is that Lincrusta in the library?
Wow……Love the staircases in this home! Beauty!!!
Exquisite! I love it all!
Great-great-grandad built a beautiful house!
