That bedroom with the small bed..to the right, looks like a window that was closed up, sure looks like a frame of one.

OK…I think all of the old house dreamers/lovers here need to pack up and go to St. Joseph, MO and buy some of the bargain historic home treasures located in and around that city!

I was in Independence MANY years ago and loved the buildings I saw then. Saw a little of the surrounding area, but I was not in the market then…..I was in my late teens.

I’ve always thought Missouri architecture rocks!

This is one of several mansions in the Hall Street Historic District. It is an amazing house, and is worth every penny of the asking price. These Hall Street mansions are really something special. Would sell for millions someplace else. However, you can find many bargains on old houses in St. Joseph. There is beautiful architecture here in need of love and care. You can get many in the $100,000 range that are in good condition, and for fixer-uppers, you can pay much less. St. Joseph has a population of about 76000, and is only about 50 minutes away from Kansas City, as well as 30 minutes from Kansas City International Airport. St. Joseph is a fine place to live.

This is one of the nicest and best preserved houses I’ve seen. Anyone know what is going on with this one and the Schuster Mansion next door?

This one was recently purchased (for far below the asking price apparently)and is being lived in. That’s good news. As to the Schuster mansion, its still inhabited by an older man who has neither the means, nor the desire to maintain it. Its slowly crumbling down around him 9as evidenced by the collapse of the gorgeous side porch a few years back).
