Hannibal is my favorite town. Lived there as a child and It is just unmatched for history and free or very cheap things to do for entertainment. Great community support for the arts.

    • I have a little gripe with Hannibal. Our youngest daughter moved to Hannibal in 2008 for college. Twelve years later she’s still living there because she loves Hannibal so much. I was happy to share her with Hannibal for 4 years, but I sure wish they would give her back.

Wow good for them for ripping off that horrible aluminum siding and exposing that beautiful woodwork once again. Nice Job!
This house is stunning I must say. The woodwork alone. I love the cathedral glass in the windows. Give a strong effect.

I love the staircase in this beautiful home. I’m wondering why the tiles around the fireplace don’t match the tiles on the floor on the hearth of the same fireplace? Both appear to be vintage tiles of that era.

I was wondering the same. The surround tiles are awesome. I wonder if the floor was damaged? Perhaps from another part of the house? Questions arise.

Oh, my not ANOTHER fab place that could easily be dealt with. I need some simple indoor projects. This acreage is killing me! Wonder if Donnie wants to take a few trips? I think they’re possibly going to shut down his plant for a week or so and he’s itching to go somewhere!

  11. I had a pleasant stay in this home last year when it was an AirBnB. Beautiful and well kept, nice vibe. I cannot believe the low price. The street is a combination of beautiful well maintained old homes and many that are sadly derelict. Not too far from the awesomeness of downtown Hannibal. Fun river town.

Can anyone tell me the true size of the lot? Zillow says 4,138 which is similar to the floor space. 4,138 squared is 64 ft on a side. Not likely to be that small.

The home of prominent local builder John Oliver Hogg (1825-1917), a native of Scotland whose expertise included lumbering, milling, design and construction over a 60 year career. His firm built many of the substantial public buildings in Hannibal including the courthouse and jail, as well as churches, businesses and some of the more impressive homes. Hogg served in the Civil War, and with his wife Jamima Thompson had 5 children, including four sons in the lumber and building trades. Son James was a trained architect who may have actually designed the house, though the father is attributed.
The house was restored in the 1980’s as shown in the photos, with the original front porch reproduced from the period sketch. A fine job and it’s been well-preserved since – seems like a bargain!

Quite a great restore job. I sure hope the next buyer doesn’t put in modern windows and replace those old “Queen Anne” sashes. And though it doesn’t look like it in the drawing, the porch gable would benefit with a nice ornamentation. Maybe repeating some of the third floor detailing.
