A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH- This 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Spanish/Art Deco home has a lot of charm but needs a lot of work. The roof has caused extensive water damage but there is still lots to be saved! The beautiful woodwork, fireplace, stain glass windows, high ceilings and custom tile portray the craftsman work of the 1920's. Outside, the home has a tiered backyard that backs to woods. There is also a detached, one-car garage. Located in West Side, this home is minutes from I-68, West Side Elementary School, Allegany High School and downtown Cumberland.

It’s hard to believe that the price is only 20K! You can hardly buy a good used car for that amount of money!

I agree! I was expecting the photos to show something much, much worse on the inside. Photos don’t tell the whole story, of course, but it appears as if this house has a huge amount of potential. There are so many great details left throughout.

My backyard is now a disappointment to me. I didn’t know a tiered yard was a thing, but now I want one.

Cumberland is built in a valley so a tiered yard is common there. And the roof might not be the best for the climate which can see a lot of snow in the winter. The other thing is that high paying jobs are not always easy to find there. It is in western Maryland and is in a slow recovery. It is a stunning town though.

TXJewel, I couldn’t find your last response about Alpine/FD to reply but I believe we’ve visited here before (I own the old Nel’s Cafe/Bookfeller on the highway 🙂 and it is So HoT right now!)

THIS $20K house hurts my heart. I hope the right person grabs it and restores it to what it should be <3

Wow! I expected much worse. The lot alone has to be worth 20K.

Hi Krysta! I remember, I should have remembered before, but I guess I must be getting feeble minded! Ha, ha. It’s been very hot here too, although we’re more used to it over here than y’all are.

I like it! Spanish is considered a bit kooky in this part of the world, so it’s not really surprising this one hasn’t found a buyer in an economically depressed area. It could be a good deal for someone with the skills to renovate. Let’s hope a dreamer with tools comes along and saves the house without stripping away the character.

I love this house!! I love the Spanish style and would really like to be the one to turn this back into a stunning home. Problem is, it’s in Maryland, and the weather there is not good for my health. So, no house.I truly hope someone buys this house who will make their dream come true!

I was hoping for a fantastic old bathroom—oh well! I do love the arched tiled passthrough to the kitchen, though.
