This certainly checks off all the boxes for that distinction, Kelly! The house is a treasure.

I am curious about the knocked-over chairs in the exercise room on the third floor.

Also curious about the carriage house. Do any of the pictures reflect the interior of that wonderful building?

    • I think they piled the chairs under the hanging bar, keep people from playing on it maybe.

That would make me want to play on it! I would use a chair to reach it. Or at least swing on the hanging ring. When I saw the pile of chairs I was thinking there had been some kind of circus training accident!

  3. Great place! I sure would love to see what it looked like originally. There’s a lot still left, but a few things would be neat to see, like the kitchen and un-muddled baths. I am never a fan of the renos that are done for B&B’s.
Too bad the speakeasy is gone… that would be super cool.

Absolutely monumental mansion! It’s exceptional in every way possible. Are those pigeons sitting all over the roof?

What a stunner! That top floor with original gymnasium and darkroom as my favorite part, but the bathrooms are pretty sweet too.

Beautiful mansion here. Very reminiscent of a West Virginia coal baron mansion (Clarksville?) that was privately shared a couple of months ago. I think it was a documented George F. Barber & Co. design which makes me wonder if this one was as well? Very spacious house here with a porte cochere leading directly back to a Classical inspired carriage house. (arguably, the best one I’ve yet seen) There’s just too many fine details in this nearly 7,500 sq. foot house to enumerate. Thanks for sharing.

A lovely house, with a very appealing kitchen, despite the island. And that rib cage shower looks original, and fabulous!

Yes, the last time I saw an intact rib cage shower was at Haas-Lilienthal House in San Francisco back in the 90’s. Toured that magnificent place with my then-fiancé.

Beautiful!!! I love the exterior of the house as well as the interior. There is something about a blue bed and bath that I find so relaxing. I would love to see the carriage house as well. Ludington is one of the towns I’m looking for a home in as Oakland County has become quite a sellers market and I don’t stand a chance with my measley 110k loan.
This house is gorgeous. It appears to be surrounded by other big beauties.

    1875 Limestone house
    Langeais, Loire Valley,

Breathtaking! And built by an ancestor of Jacques Cartier, no less! The house makes quite a statement, it’s very imposing from the front! So many amazing features to list…

There’s this fireplace with a Victorian cast-iron cover but on a long wall of tiles with niches that looks a bit craftsman-y with the leaded glass built-in above. Do you think it’s original? I think it’s the first time I’ve seen this combination of features.

Would love to see a floorplan!
