Built in 1822 for Dr. David Leavenworth (1769-1831), a physician, printer and merchant. Owned for many years by the family of John C. Russell (1804-1873), who with his brother Asa developed local industry.

A quirky and interesting house with a combination of Federal and Greek Revival features. Stripping many layers of paint from the woodwork brings out the fine detail when refinished. The gutting of the old plaster walls is unfortunate, though this could still be an excellent restoration if sensitively done. Plenty of space and a nice big yard!

I’ve seen this house listed before when searching Great Barrington. I love NY but would consider moving to Mass. it’s a little but less expensive than where we are now. Great Barrington and the surrounding towns are beautiful, friendly and offer small town living with plenty of history and culture. We are not ready to make changes yet, but this could be a great house and location for me.
