Some beautiful woodwork here. Love the butler’s pantry, the stairway and the arch in the den/office/library. At first I thought there was a really cool carriage house out back, but then realized it’s actually connected to the house….even more cool.

That’s standard in Maine to have the outbuildings connected, and makes sense with the climate.

Beautiful home – I even like the color!

Gorgeous home & property! The woodwork is just beautiful! I have similar pink flower wall paper in a room in my home!

Wow this one is incredible. Makes me want to move to the other side of the country for that house.

Like so many towns, Houlton has a “hamburger alley” sort of thing out near the interstate, but its old downtown section is really cool, organized around a large square. It’s the County seat, very close to Canada, and Houlton Farms Dairy produces the best butter you can buy in Maine. This part of the state was and continues to be potato country. Quite a few large, interesting houses were built on money made raising spuds; I wonder if this is one. Houlton does have winter.

I came just to provide a description of Houlton, but you described it perfectly! Potato country, indeed! My Dad grew up on a potato farm in Fort Fairfield, so I spent all my summers as a kid up in the County. It’s beautiful country, and wonderful to see that some Amish families have moved up there and revived farming.

Well, the first thing I would do is tear down most of the interior walls for an open concept look. Then thoroughly gut the kitchen and replace for a modern look. Haha! Just kidding! Wonder how many OHDers just fell out of their chairs! I like it just the way it is! Sorry – couldn’t resist.

I’m not sure why, but it surprises me how many nice old homes Maine apparently has. This being another one. I like that the carriage houses and barns are often attached like with this house. However, I don’t like the reason that they are, lol. I don’t mind some snow and a bit of cold, just not that much of it. I wish we could see inside the barn! More than just that attic shot.

This house will feature nicely in my “leaving-the-world-behind-and-moving-to-Maine” fantasy.

Best part is the rotary phone in the kitchen! 😀

Looks like a panel is missing above the coat closet door, hopefully that is still hanging around and can be put back. Those stairs are fabulous, especially with the three windows and gold radiator.
Is is odd that both the kitchen and butler’s pantry open into the dining room? I thought that the butler’s pantry was supposed to separate the dining room from the smells/sounds of the kitchen.
