This very unique and admired property has the feel of a gentleman's farm yet just a short distance to the historic village of Essex. Built in 1787 this Antique Center Chimney Cape sits perfectly on a beautiful 3.5 acres parcel. A babbling brook runs through the hillside and feeds a pond in the back corner. The main home is filled with unique charm, character and detail....from the covered outside fieldstone and brick Swedish Kitchen to the captivating dining room mural and original floors, beams and built-ins. The 2 car detached garage has a three season studio above. This warm inviting 400 SF space has 2 built-in beds, fieldstone fireplace, deck and is appropriately named "The Barnacle". Easy commute from the hustle and bustle of New York or Boston to this wonderful summer retreat getaway. So much of the value is in the extraordinary 3.5 Acres. Both the home and Barnacle in need of TLC.

Posted last year, price reduced. Thought this one deserved another look so moved it to the front page.

That’s cheap for Essex on that land and that nice view. Essex is a nice town with a beautiful center that leads to the Connecticut River. I lived there for a short time. Low mill rate back then. This house is not my style, but can make someone really satisfied I’m sure.

The cover picture led me to think this was going to be a small house. This is truly a home that invites gathering of family and friends. I love all the sitting and large table areas for conversations, games, eating, etc. Lovely home with a very cozy atmosphere. I could definitely live here.

My favorite part is the garage…..that and the kitchen, especially, has a 1940s vibe, which I truly appreciate…. just a warm, homey feel. This one also has great outdoor entertaining space as well.
