This magnificent two-story Italianate Style home is historically referred to as "The Old Brick". This unique five bedroom, three bath home sits on a nearly two acre beautifully manicured lot. Highlights include cherry wood floors and elegant Lincrusta Wainscoting from Great Britain in the foyer, modern kitchen with original brick walls and custom cabinetry, formal living room with wood burning fireplace featuring a cast iron mantel, library with handcrafted floor to ceiling bookcases, six foot windows with original shutters. The outer walls were built three bricks thick (an outer layer of two bricks separated from the inner layer by an air space for unbeatable insulative properties). The eleven foot ceilings keep the home cool in the summer. This property also has an unfinished basement and a 2.5 car detached garage. The steep, gabled roof sheds snow easily, was replaced in 2005, and is in excellent condition. The exterior including eaves was repainted in 2014. The landscaping has an abundance of flowers, shrubs and mature trees. The back yard is surrounded by a double-gated polyvinyl fence. The yard also features two large stone patio areas and a wooden deck. A pergola covers the hot tub area. Ask for a copy of the home's history!

Wow I’d use that sun porch as a sewing room! All the details are great and I’m so happy with the kitchen. Brown bathroom, not so much! I’ll have to lookup the town of Charleston

Charleston is home to Eastern Illinois University, and when I attended there some 40+ years ago, was a small, friendly city. It was a great place to live at the time.

The pictures alone made me feel as though I was in Italy! I can only imagine what it would be like if I was there in person! Beautiful home and grounds!

I’m from Charleston. LOVE this house! It was for sale a couple years ago. Possibly listed on here also. EIU has been struggling for a few years now as has most universities in Illinois. With that, crime has been a struggle also, but the community is trying and it is nice. There are quite a few nature parks and trails to enjoy.

I feel like this house is having a little bit of an identity crisis inside but it’s sure got a lot of potential.

The curb appeal alone would get potential buyers pouring in.

Lovely home! Someone lucky buyer will enjoy this abode. Only thing needed is some fresh paint on the interior. Backyard is so inviting.

Its funny how certain houses appeal to you. Some are grandiose and pretty but I can’t see myself in them, but this one is 99% perfect for me (I like gas stoves). I love the town and that part of Illinois.

It’s gorgeous, but the ad on Zillow lists property taxes over $7100!!! On an assessed value of $79,000, so they could go UP from there. That’s nearly 9%! I heard property tax in Illinois was insane, but this is unbelievable. Even if I could afford the buy-in (which is a steal for the quality and condition), I couldn’t afford to keep it.

One question — what’s NOT to love about this property??! Maybe a little less carpeting, but then . . .
