27-242 Old Mamalahoa Hwy, Papaikou, HI 96781

A truly classic plantation era home/office steeped in more tradition than a bottle of old Sake. Located on a CV-10 zoned corner lot in the heart of Papaikou, the TMK shows year built as 1930, but the Tax Office card shows 1915, which reflects family's knowledge of this never before sold historic property. The multipurpose home also served as a Barber Shop and "Bank", and an apartment upstairs with a peek a boo ocean view. Photos of Seller's Grandfather Junzo Kurokawa in front of, and in his Barber Shop circa 1930 is in the listing, and across the street in the Plantation Museum, you will find his recently donated original Barber chair. Enjoy this extremely rare gem as you find her, or give her a makeover to help her shine again. Either way, she can serve well as a charming home, office, or rental. Seller has written a short history on the home, which along with a handful of the original skeleton keys will be passed to the Buyer. Improvements have been made without permits, and this is to be sold As-Is. From Hawaii Belt road, turn left in Papaikou on Mill Rd, home is on the left at the corner of Old Mamalahoa Hwy. On lock box, short notice OK.

    Street view:

Very cool old house, at a safe distance from the volcanoes (I think).

So weird but I also kinda like it. I wonder if the door in that one bedroom was moved, it’s strange to see a transom to the side. Love the earlier photo with so many more trees and vegetation.

I just got caught up in the google maps area just perusing the sights! I’m so sad that it is being sold, The fact that Grandpa spent most of his life there is incredible!

Fascinating house. I’d knock down the garage That’s occupying the left part of the front yard and restore the landscaping.

Comes with a traditional Japanese bath tub. I went to Hawaii for vacation mny times over the 20 years I lived in Tokyo. Island fever would be a problem but maybe some surfing would fix that.
