Almost $90,000 a year in taxes to live here. Yikes!

47 bedrooms! I can’t even begin to think about furnishing all that space. I’d have a lot of fun at estate sales trying.

Personally, I would find 47 bedrooms inadequate. 😉

The style of the CH probably indicates an earlier house pre-dating the current skizotic palace was it’s original companion.

The mansion is more to my taste — beautiful. The carriage house’s wood is gorgeous; I could do without the wallboard? screens? on the living room walls, but there’s a lot of potential in the place.

I love it! This is exactly the kind of place that I dream about converting into my own personal artist studio/ living space (maybe one day…)

I was going to say “WOW” when I saw the carriage house until I clicked the link Kelly gave for the estate. Why, that carriage house is mere pile of matchsticks compared to the main house! Sheesh!

I used to live right up the road from this place. Absolutely stunning!

I want the carriage house to still have stalls and smell of horses and hay. The mansion is breathtaking but I do love the carriage house. What fun I would have fixing it up and making it romantic. Then I would fill the ground floor with my horses and my rescues. How lovely that would be.

The carriage house itself is 10 beds and 6,600sf, lol.

This property has been on the market for as long as I can remember. Clearly the new strategy is to try to sell the carriage house separately from the large house. The house was designed by Guy Lowell, a society architect on the edge of the American country house movement of the first third of the twentieth century. Like many of his designs, stolid is the only adjective that really works for the house. Note: the house has been considerably enlarged (and unbalanced) by the current institutional owners.
