This would make for a fun project, turning the older section into what it may have been originally with a “newer” addition restoration but keeping the porches. The home sits pretty on the lot, I’d buy it for that and the staircase alone.

Look at those wonderful wide plank floors upstairs. And that’s a Saint Charles steel case kitchen too! Your suggestion of a dual period restoration would fit this home perfectly!

Like the rural location. There are more pics on Realtor that probably show the “unoccupied area in need of repair”. Possibly a floor dropping and might be seeing daylight from the inside. The side with a covered porch on only the lower story. The same room has two exterior doors not a foot from each other. Interesting to figure out the progression of additions.

Did anyone else notice the picture with the probably original fireplace mantel directly bisected by a panelling column, probably hiding some kind of pipe? picture 20 from the top

It’s a chimney. It has a flu cap covering the flu. Strange, very strange.

Yeah, the chimney there was rebuilt at some point with a stove thimble, and it’s odd that they left the old mantel there.

An interesting old place with layers of history and change – research required to determine a detailed chronology. Although period restoration would require removing all the paneling and other 20th C. updates, leaving it intact and enjoying the home as-is might be fun and more practical!
