247 S Extension St, Hazlehurst, MS 39083

Map: Street

This southern beauty is located one block from downtown Hazlehurst. Its large rooms have gleaming wood floors, wide plantation shutters, and beautiful, wide moldings. The walk up attic has the potential to add 2 additional bedrooms. There is a study that could be a third bedroom. This study with large pocket doors has walls paneled in a wood that is possibly mahogany. The kitchen is spacious with beautiful, high corner windows that look out over the lush grounds. There is a guest house that contains an additional 352 sq. ft. and a bathroom. There is plenty of parking in the back and the front parking has lovely bricked area. This is a well built house.

Build date given was 1950 (yada-yada build dates)…I really don’t know with this one.

Special big thanks to StevenF for posting this FINE house in the share last week. Steven has an especially keen eye for outstanding, quality, well preserved, u.m.c. homes of the inter-war and early post war years. He is too right having a particular affinity for theses homes as they represent the absolute pinnacle of American residential design and construction quality. This house exhibits those superlatives in spades! I’m glad to see the price came UP a bit to more correctly reflect the real value of this VERY FINE, and exceptionally beautiful home.

If you like these sorts of early, and mid-century modern homes and you missed out on Steven’s shared links last week – DON’T! Go back to last week’s share and check them out because otherwise you are missing some QUALITY interesting homes.

    Shenzhen & SoCal,

The design and execution is outstanding. I particularly appreciate the windows, interior glass transoms and borrowed-lites.

Hazelhurst MS is where the movie “Crimes of the Heart” takes place. It’s a must see for all old house lovers. The movie has a great cast.
