wow, I really like the wrought iron bannister solid look of this house. And, while the NC climate may be a little extreme for them, the metal casement windows are a fave of mine. It appears that a new roof may be in order, and a central AC system added, but otherwise, mostly cosmetic stuff. Lots of plumb walls and floors, so it looks like the foundation is good. Hope the new owners don’t paint over the knotty pine in the den.

I agree with 95% of your comment! This is a lovely house, and with cosmetic sprucing up, it’ll be just beautiful. I’m not much of a knotty pine fan – that’s my only semi-dissention. ?

I would love to get my hands on a house like this.

I would carefully restore it rather than renovate.

I would install period-correct lighting. The dining room chandelier appears to be original; a treasure to be retained.

I would select late-1930s furnishings and drapery, traditional in style but with a late 30s vibe.

Done right, this house would not only be a knock-out, but it would be distinctive.

I fear though that a buyer will erase every single distinctive aspect of this house, including the fabulous steel windows.

This house is only about a 20 min drive from Charlotte, NC… a major employment center. I live in charlotte and actually in the market for a new (old) home. We are going to look at this one this weekend. Great price for being so close to Charlotte.

I agree with everything Ross has said about this place. Houses of this period are among my favorites. Oh, and HERE is a piano worth having, even if it needs a rebuild.

Normally a house of this style wouldn’t appeal to me, but the way it is shrouded by trees and shrubs with a bit of an overgrown feel to it really has me in awe at it. As far as the exterior/landscaping is concerned I think I’d plant a few more flowering shrubs and then leave it as it is, so long as the tree roots haven’t upset the foundations. Then internally I’d do as Ross prescribes. Then I’d have a really enchanting home. 🙂
I just can’t get over how amazing it looks it its streetview. It has me sold on that factor alone!
