Calling all old house lovers: Own a piece of Morris County History! Charming 3BR/1BA 18-19th century home with many original features waiting for new owner's touches. The Babbit-Matthews House predates the Revolutionary War. Many original features remain, including wide-plank floors, exposed rough-hewn beams, clapboard siding, fieldstone fireplace, Dutch doors. Large sunny kitchen with bay window, 16x16 dining room w/fireplace, spacious LR with woodstove and a large screened-in porch overlooking the lovely backyard complete the first floor. Upstairs features a large MBR with vaulted ceiling and exposed stone chimney, two smaller BRs (one now used as a laundry room; can be converted back) and full BA. New furnace and HW heater, new 50-year roof. There is a two-car detached garage and parking spaces for 6 cars. The over-1-acrea park-like property borders the Rockaway River, a stocked trout stream, and has no immediate neighbors. The Berkshire Valley Wildlife Management Area is directly across the street. This home has been well-loved for decades by its current owners, and just awaits a new owner to take it into its third century of life.

Thank you so much, Kelly! It’s amazing to see a home that’s almost 300 years old that still retains so many original features, even though it’s always been occupied and not owned by a historical society, etc. Now to find a new person or family who will take care of it and love it as much as its current owners!

I used to drive this road when I lived in the area. With Route 80, the Rockaway Mall, and lots of condos and subdivisions around, it was like going back in time with the old houses and natural landscape along it. An ancient place like this on an acre for less than $250k would have got my attention even 25 years ago!

Like it. Cute room by small window. Nice big fireplace in dining room. Such a great oldie. Also some nice old antique pieces.
