This Grand 1889 Italianate villa is one of a kind. Designated heritage and recipient of the Heritage St. Marys Award (2014) the house has retained its decorative architectural details inside and out, making it one of the best-preserved houses in St Marys. Walk up the impressive front stairs to the wrap around veranda. Through double doors is a bright central hall with a generous living room/library to one side, and an ornate front parlour and formal dining room on the other. Under the main staircase is a powder room and at the back of the house, a spacious country style kitchen with wainscoting and painted pine floors. The main staircase leads to three large bedrooms, a wood paneled study/office, laundry room and ornate main bathroom with copper fixtures and heated floor. A conveniently located servant staircase leads back down to the eat-in kitchen. Rich details exude character such as William Morris themed wallpaper from Bradbury & Bradbury, original plaster cornices, high ceilings with medallions, hardwood floors, high baseboards, pocket doors, original hardware, many original light fixtures and three wood-burning fireplaces. The back yard is fully fenced, and benefited by a stone patio, mature trees, gardens with shrubs, perennials and bulbs, and a charming two story shed/playhouse.

    What a house…… WOW.

I would venture to say this one is perfect.

This house is beyond stunning. I detest wallpaper just on principle, but this house has me rethinking that position. And that room that’s half bedroom/half library? My definition of perfection! And the light fixtures (especially the one in the dining room)! The owner has obviously taken a great deal of pride in this one; it’s so lovely!

Beautiful home! Maybe it’s my imagination but old Ontario homes feel just a touch more English than their US counterparts. An old family photo I have of my mom’s Ontario family has a snippet of similar jigsaw detail, but I have no idea where the house was.

This is a beautiful area of Ontario and super close to some great beaches. Sarnia has a lovely park on the St. Clair River at the mouth of Lake Huron and the people are absolutely wonderful and so friendly! I wish I could convince the family that it isn’t all That Cold! …and besides, they sell Butter Tarts up there, just saying.
