  1. Oh how I am in love with this house:) Stately and Elegant! I wouldn’t change one darn thing…..

    • Couldn’t agree more. It’s one of the finest houses I’ve seen this year; and I’m so pleased to see that these images capturing it’s currently unspoiled beauty have a permanent home here on OHD.

  2. Oooh, wish we could have a close up of those 1920’s accent tiles in the bathroom.

  3. Magnificent! I would assume the hardwoods are in good condition under all that carpet, too!

  4. OMG! I’m in love with this house! The kitchen and butler’s pantry, the bathrooms! Everything!

  5. Love everything about this beautiful house! But, I gotta ask, if they same person has owned it since 1926, how old were they when they bought it? Maybe the agent meant to say “one family owned” since 1926?

      • Cora, I always love the houses you share! That half bath is the sweetest! Keep ‘em coming !

    • Yes, the house was built for Charles F. Merkle (1866-1946) who ran a cemetery monument business. He was 60 when the house was built, though his wife Theresa was younger and their 3 children were still in school. Charles F. Merkle Jr. continued the monument business with his sister, and owned the house until his death in 2004. His widow Anna is still shown as the owner of record although she passed in 2012.

    • You’re probably right. However, my 91 year old mother was born in 1926 and still lives in the house in which she was born – so it’s not a terrible stretch of the truth to say her house has had one owner.

      Love this house.

  6. This house is one of my very favorites! The gorgeous tiled floors, the pantry/breakfast nook, etc, etc…. yum!

  7. Wow, this house is very well laid out. It has all the components that a house should have, including a three car garage. Love it.

  8. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS HOUSE! Everything was so tastefully done and you can tell they took care during the renovation. Love that they kept the original kitchen cabinets and that they kept the funky 1920s bathroom tile. Wish more folks would do that. Also, I noticed that the fireplace is original California Art Tile! I have one nearly identical to it in my home (built 1929).

  9. Other than the wallpaper, there is little to nothing I would change in this house. I particularly love the unusual tile (?), lino (?) pattern in the front rooms. Reminds me of a quilt pattern whose name I can’t recall right now. I also like the actual layout, especially of the front of the house and the entry. Unique and gorgeous. Beautiful curb appeal as is usual with Tudor. No wonder it’s my fav! 🙂

  10. This house is a delight. The kitchen and breakfast nook had me first—then the bathrooms. Perfection!

  11. The asking price is a steal for this home, in this condition and in this neighborhood.

  12. Gorgeous! I especially love the kitchen and breakfast nook. You can tell this place has been extremely well-taken care of and well-loved.
